Project Management

Every successful radio product starts with a well-managed project. We take responsibility for the full development lifecycle — from requirements capture through to production sign-off.

  • Requirements analysis and radio feasibility assessment
  • Link budget calculation and propagation modelling
  • Regulatory pathway planning (CE marking, RED directive, ETSI standards)
  • Component sourcing and supply chain management
  • Prototype milestone planning with formal review gates
  • Production build specification and quality acceptance testing
  • Project documentation, version control and change management

Stage 2

Hardware Design & PCB Manufacture

In-house electronics design capability through Finchdata's electronics arm — producing radio-optimised PCB layouts with proper RF ground planes, impedance-matched feed networks and EMC pre-compliance screening.

🧰
Schematic & PCB Layout
Full schematic capture and PCB layout with RF-specific design rules: controlled-impedance traces, proper decoupling, RF ground plane management and RF keepout zones. Files prepared for JLCPCB or UK manufacturers.
🔋
Radio Module Integration
Experienced with Radiometrix, RF Solutions and eByte LoRa module families. We select the right module for your band, power, data rate and form-factor requirements and handle all interface circuitry design.
🔭
Radio Design & Testing
PCB trace radiators, whip, helical and patch element selection and matching network design. We can arrange anechoic chamber testing and site surveys to validate real-world range performance.
Assembly & Test
Small to medium volume PCB assembly via UK and JLCPCB partners. In-house functional test jig design and production test procedures to ensure every unit meets specification before shipment.
Stage 3

Embedded Firmware Development

We develop robust embedded firmware for radio-based products, with particular expertise in MicroPython on the RP2040 platform.

  • MicroPython firmware on RP2040-based platforms
  • LoRa transceiver driver implementation (SX1276 / SX1262 chipsets)
  • Proprietary protocol stack design — framing, CRC, retry and ACK logic
  • GSM / LTE cellular uplink via SIM7000 for cloud connectivity
  • UDP / TCP transport with server-side PHP and ColdFusion endpoints
  • Multi-channel frequency-hopping and housecode security schemes
  • Low-power sleep modes targeting years of battery life

Applications

Where We Deploy Radio Systems

Qradio equipment is used across a wide range of industries wherever reliable wireless telemetry and control is needed.

🔥
Alarm Systems
Wireless alarm base stations and remote units operating in the 869 MHz life-critical band. Multi-zone, multi-unit architectures with housecode security. Compatible with a range of alarm system standards.
Cold Chain & Temperature
Wireless temperature and humidity monitoring for food manufacturers, pharmacies and cold storage operators. Radio-transmitted sensor data delivered to web dashboards with alert thresholds.
🏭
Industrial Monitoring
Analogue 4–20 mA and digital I/O monitoring across factories, warehouses and industrial estates using SRD radio links to avoid expensive cable installation.
📍
Asset Tracking
LoRa-based asset tracking across large sites, yards and campuses. Long battery life tags report position via LoRaWAN or proprietary network to a central management system.
🏠
Building Automation
Wireless metering, access control and environment monitoring integrated with building management systems via radio links — eliminating the need for costly infrastructure cabling.
📷
CCTV & Security
Working alongside our sister division QCCTV, we provide wireless video backhaul and remote alarm signalling using radio links to extend CCTV coverage without cable infrastructure.
